Dancers performing on a ledge atop The Sherman Hotel, c.1926, Chicago. As 1926 was the height of the Charleston craze, I’m assuming that’s what they’re doing…

something that has been bugging me lately is that people in the past were not afraid of heights.  i am not afraid of heights, but i am rather terrified of seeing other people too close to the edge of things that will kill them.
for example, i’d rather be this camera man than look at him dangle on the edge of the building like that; and i mean that in present tense when he is most likely deceased anyway.

CHIBOULEVARDS: Streets for Cycling West Side Map

chiboulevards:

Yesterday, CDOT posted an image of their west side map that shows all current bike lanes and sections of roadway that may feature protected bike lanes in the near future, and once again asked for more input from folks on where they would like to see bike lanes:

(this map is hard to read,

i don’t know how they plan to put a protected lane across the bridge on Diversy, but, if they do, that would address one of my most hated choke points.

When Swamp Dogg was on The Sound of Young America, he told the story of writing this song, (Don’t Take Her) She’s All I Got, for Johnny Paycheck. It was a #1 country hit, and won “Song of the Year” at the CMAs. The best part was when he described the audible gasp in the crowd when they realized that the Jerry Williams, Jr. who’d written the tune was a portly 5’8” black guy who was probably better known as Swamp Dogg, a soul singer who recorded songs like “California is Drowning and I Live Down By The River” and made album covers with pictures of him sitting in his underpants in a pile of garbage and riding a giant rat.

Anyway, great song.

this song, video and backstory is, in fact, the shit.
